Environmentally Friendly Cleaning: Homemade Natural Cleaners

Environmentally Friendly Cleaning

If you have decided to make a drastic change in your life and live in a way to protect the environment, the first thing you should do is throw away the detergents and toxic cleaning products, bought from the store. They are not only harmful for your health, but also extremely dangerous for the environment. You can use many effective homemade natural cleaners that are as effective as the ones sold in the market. However, if you use natural cleaners you will be safe for your health and for the health of your children.

Homemade cleaners can be stored in spray reusable bottles, which can be bought cheaply from a local store. Repeated use of the spray bottle makes use of household cleaners, even more ecologically! Consider that everything you buy from the store comes wrapped in plastic, and then it goes in the trash. If we consider the entire energy used to manufacture plastic bottles and transport them to the store becomes clear that homemade cleaners are the best choice for clean, green home!

Please remember to be responsible when disposing of remaining toxic cleaning products, after you've switched to homemade environmentally friendly cleaners. The products that contain toxic chemicals are dangerous for the environment and should not be discarded in drains or garbage.

Before my baby was born I had never thought about eco-friendly ways of cleaning. Not that I didn’t want to protect the environment – I was recycling and I thought that was enough. I knew that the toxic detergents are harmful but probably I cared more about the cleanness of my carpet. The great difference came when my toddler started spending much time on the carpet. That was the moment when I decided to stop using detergents containing different chemicals that can cause allergies or even asthma to my baby. I started searching online for different carpet cleaning tips and I was surprised how much helpful information I found! Now I want to share my experience with you and hopefully help some of you lead a healthier way of life!

If you need universal tool against bad odors, not only on the carpet but on the fridge as well, then you have to rely on baking soda. If you leave a box of baking soda opened in the fridge, it will absorb all the unpleasant odors from the food, stored there. In order to remove the bad smell from the carpet, you have to spread several boxes of baking soda on it (the amount depends on the size of your carpeted covering) and leave the product to act for one night. On the morning, open the windows and vacuum the carpet. That’s all you have to do if you wish to enjoy fresh and spotless carpet.

Every time you are vacuuming your carpets and area rugs, open the windows to get some fresh air in the room. If you don’t do that, although your carpet is cleaned, the room will smell of dust.

If you need homemade spot remover, the ingredients that you need are white vinegar, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and water. These are the most effective eco-friendly cleaning products which can cope with 99% of the most common stains on the carpet!

Many different stains can be removed with the help of one of the most popular carpet cleaning tips. Mix white vinegar and baking soda in order to form a paste. Then use an old toothbrush to spread that mixture on top of the stain and wait for it to dry. When it is perfectly dry, collect the substance with the vacuum cleaner.

If you notice a chocolate stain on your carpet, you need to use hydrogen peroxide. Apply the product directly on the spot! Wait until it stops fizzing and then absorb the stain with the help of clean white cloth. Don’t be disappointed if the stain is not removed immediately. Some stubborn stains need to be cleaned more than once in order to be removed completely.

If you have steam cleaning machine, it will be excellent way to eliminate germs and bacteria from your carpet. However, if you want to achieve superb effect in cleaning, you should fill the machine with equal amounts of white vinegar and warm water. The white vinegar is used to dissolve stains and neutralize the bad odors from the carpet. That is why it is one of the most recommended cleaning products for carpet maintenance.

Although white vinegar, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide are green methods for cleaning, you should again be careful when using them. Baking soda and vinegar could irritate your eyes while cleaning, and hydrogen peroxide should not be ingested! It is also important when you are using these cleaning products to keep your kids away from the carpet.
